On December 4, Mia had a life-changing experience when she got to fly an airplane! She dreams of being a pilot someday, so her case manager (Erin) and one of her homeschool teachers (Mandy) took her for a Vision Flight at JAARS (JUNGLE AVIATION AND RELAY SERVICE) in Waxhaw, NC.
She was greeted by a personal escort, who explained the mission and history of JAARS, while asking Mia questions about herself. After some very stirring videos and looking at some mini model aircraft, she was then taken to the aircraft hangar where she met Geoff who told her about his time in service as a missionary. Wouldn’t you know that he and his wife were houseparents to missionary children for several years?

After the tour of the hangar and aircraft, Mia was ready for her flight! The pilot was very personable and welcoming, taking Mia through the pre-flight check of the aircraft. Then, Mia was ready to fly! After the pilot took her down the runway, she was in the air and in control. It was an amazing time that she really enjoyed.
I liked looking at the Bibles. When I came in, I also liked looking at the museum part, both looking at the airplanes and across the street with the different languages and antiques. I also loved being the pilot and flying the airplane. That was my favorite part. It was such an awesome experience. One thing I have been thinking about is I think God is calling me to be a missionary.
Upon landing, Mia was treated to lunch at the cafe where she got to speak with a missionary helicopter pilot! Then, it was on to the two museums at JAARS – Cardenas Building and Alphabet Museum. What a full day of seeing how God has used people to share His love with others all over the world.
